Claudia Avina, Ph. D
Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Claudia Avina received her master's and doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno. She served as Assistant Professor of Psychology at Pepperdine University teaching counseling and psychotherapy courses. She completed postdoctoral fellowships at Harbor-UCLA Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Clinic and the Youth Stress and Mood Clinic at UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. She has specialized training in delivering cognitive-behavioral treatments to children and adolescents suffering from anxiety, depression, as well as psychological problems resulting from traumatic experiences. She has extensive experience working with victims of sexual assault and child sexual abuse.

 

 

She also has specialized training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy for adolescents. She continues to be involved in training mental health professionals on utilizing CBT treatments with children and adolescents. She is currently a Research Psychologist at UCLA where she works on several research projects aimed at helping teenagers suffering from depression. In her work at the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center of Southern California, Dr. Avina treats children and adolescents struggling with anxiety and depressive issues, and with children and adolescents who have suffered specific traumas.
