Dr. Frousakis completed her undergraduate studies in Psychology at UCLA and earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Tennessee – Knoxville, where she studied adult romantic relationships and specialized in evidence-based couple therapy. She has training in Emotionally Focused Therapy and Enhanced Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Frousakis has extensive training and experience helping couples rebuild intimacy and trust, improve communication skills, cope with psychosocial stressors (e.g., living with in-laws, maintaining sobriety, coping with chronic mental illness), recover from a major betrayal (e.g., extramarital affair), and co-parent more effectively.
Dr. Frousakis has worked with heterosexual, gay, and lesbian couples to help improve the quality of their relationship and address sexual health issues. She is sensitive to cultural issues, which impact individual and relationship functioning.
Dr. Frousakis completed an American Psychological Association-accredited pre-doctoral internship at the Veterans’ Affairs Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, where she received additional training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for the treatment of anxiety, posttraumatic stress, depression, and bipolar disorder.
She has been successful in using CBT to help individuals overcome a variety of problems. Additionally, Dr. Frousakis has extensive experience conducting group therapy (e.g., Social Anxiety, Group Therapy) and providing education about a variety of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, chronic pain, tinnitus, sleep difficulties, anger management, assertiveness training, and emotional regulation. She uses relaxation and mindfulness meditation techniques in the treatment of stress, pain, and anxiety.
Dr. Frousakis is involved in research at the Veterans’ Affairs in Long Beach. She and her team explore a variety of topics including, but not limited to, treating combat-related PTSD with prolong exposure therapy that is enhanced by virtual reality technology, and developing educational materials for mental health providers needing training in various therapeutic protocols. At the CBT Center, Dr. Frousakis works with individuals struggling with anxiety and mood disorders and couples seeking to improve the quality of their relationship.
Dr. Frousakis is located at both the Torrance and Glendale offices.
