Director of the Child and Adolescent Assessment Program
Dr. Myan Le is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in working with children and adolescents with a wide range of anxiety, mood, behavior and neurodevelopmental disorders, including depression, social anxiety, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorder. Dr. Le also has a special interest in working with families to improve communication and assist parents and children to address challenges related to academics and interpersonal and self-esteem issues. She has expertise in treating individuals and families with histories of chronic medical conditions, sexual trauma, community and family violence and interpersonal stress. Dr. Le’s prior work with children and families in distress informs her strength-based, developmental and collaborative approach to cognitive-behavioral therapy. In addition, Dr. Le has extensive training in working with issues of diversity including ethnic and cultural concerns and has the ability to conduct psychotherapy in both English and Vietnamese.
Dr. Le completed her undergraduate studies in Psychology at USC and earned her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology in Orange County. She completed her APA accredited pre-doctoral internship at Western Youth Services where she received advanced training in evidence-based treatments for children, adolescents and families, provided psychotherapy in English and Vietnamese, and used her skills in cognitive behavioral therapy to treat children, adolescents and young adults with anxiety, mood, depressive and substance use disorders. Dr. Le has also completed extensive training in providing psychotherapy and conducting neuropsychological assessments with children, adolescents and adults with chronic medical conditions including epilepsy, cancer, traumatic brain disorders and concussions at Children’s Hospital Orange County (CHOC) and Kaiser Permanente. Dr. Le has completed her APA accredited postdoctoral training at Harbor UCLA Medical Center where she provided evidenced based treatments to children, adolescents and families and specialized in the treatment of child abuse, neglect, neurodevelopmental disorders and working with child maltreatment survivors and their foster-adoptive families.
Dr. Le is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for children, adolescents and adults and Trauma Focused–Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) for children and adolescents. In addition, she is trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and Incredible Years (IY), both evidence-based treatments for children with disruptive behaviors. Dr. Le is also trained in many interpersonal and family therapies including Functional Family Therapy (FFT), Reflective Parenting (RPP), Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) and Mindful Parenting and utilizes her expertise to improve parent-child relationships. Dr. Le is an advocate of parent training and psychoeducation as key components to increase long-term success and has used CBT with special emphasis on relaxation and mindfulness in group treatment for parents to increase their understanding of their children’s motivations and enhance parents’ abilities to provide structure and support throughout their children’s development.
Dr. Le is the director of our CAP Assessment Center. She specializes in providing psychological evaluation and testing for children and adolescents and conducts assessments to better understand psychological functioning, as well as cognitive and learning styles. Dr. Le understands that each individual is unique and believes that identifying one’s strengths and areas of growth can ensure that he/she will have appropriate educational accommodations and prevent unnecessary frustrations.
