Dr. Julissa Cortes graduated from Pepperdine University’s Psy.D in Clinical Psychology program, focusing her training on child and adolescent psychology. She completed her APA accredited Pre-doctoral Internship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, USC Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, where her training included providing psychotherapy and psychological assessments to children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disabilities and other mental health conditions. She also obtained specialty training in Early Childhood Mental Health.
Dr. Cortes has worked with children and adolescents and their families in both English and in Spanish. She’s worked primarily treating anxiety and mood disorders, as well as trauma. Dr. Cortes has used evidenced-based practices such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Additionally, she’s received training in relationship-based interventions with young children such as Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) for children who have experienced trauma or disruptions in attachment, and DIR Floortime therapy for children with developmental challenges. Dr. Cortes has also used the Incredible Years (IY) program to help address behavioral and attentional difficulties.
Dr. Cortes’ other clinical interests include staying informed on cultural and diversity factors impacting psychological training and practice, and Latino mental health concerns. She is a Registered Psychological Assistant, supervised by Dr. Rodney Boone and practices in our Torrance and Glendale offices.
