CBT SoCal’s Dr. von Stietz becomes the new co-chair of the LACPA Sport Psychology Special Interest Group
Dr. Jason von Stietz has recently become the new co-chair of the Los Angeles County Psychological Association Sport Psychology Special Interest Group (LACPA Sport Psychology SIG). In his position as co-chair, he will collaborate with Dr. Sari Shepphird, a sport psychologist who founded the SIG. Together, they will provide programming and networking opportunities in the Los Angeles area related to sport and performance psychology.
Dr. von Stietz has been providing mental health and sport psychology services to athletes for over five years. He provided psychoeducational workshops to high school and college baseball players at the Major League Baseball Youth Academy in Compton (MLBYA). He later presented on his research findings and experiences from his time at the MLBYA at several academic and professional conferences including the prestigious Winter Roundtable, hosted by Columbia University.
Following his time at the MLBYA, he was the team consultant for a weightlifting club as well as several collegiate teams. He also has extensive experience providing mental health services to athletes including providing student-athlete mental health screeners, concussion consultations, and individual therapy to athletes suffering from a variety of mental health issues. On occasion, Dr. von Stietz has even provided couple’s therapy to athletes.
Dr. von Stietz is excited by his new role as the co-chair of the LACPA Sport Psychology SIG and plans to continue building a sport psychology presence in the South Bay and surrounding communities.
