Presentation on Exposure with Response Prevention at OCD SoCal Conference
Posted: August 10, 2021
This past month, Michele Rose, Drs. Brittany Beyerlein and Martin Hsia participated as presenters in the 5th annual OCD SoCal Conference. As the local affiliate chapter of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF), OCD SoCal’s mission is to disseminate information and awareness about OCD to the community at large.
The conference was held virtually, and consisted of OCD sufferers sharing their own journeys with both struggle and success, and then a series of panel discussions and presentations on a range of topics related to OCD. Agenda items included presentations about various subtypes of OCD and related conditions, pharmacological treatment, family involvement in successful recovery, and diversity among the OCD sufferer community.
CBT SoCal’s presentation, entitled “ERP 101: An Introduction to Exposure with Response Prevention for OCD,” was targeted towards sufferers and family members dealing with a relatively new diagnosis of OCD, as well as mental health professionals learning how to provide effective treatment.
Dr. Hsia shared some basic information and misconceptions about OCD, leading into Dr. Beyerlein’s presentation of the techniques of successful ERP. After Michele’s discussion of addressing potential barriers to treatment, the audience was able to ask questions and engage with the material.
