  • CBT SoCal’s Dr. Julissa Cortes teaches strategies for sleep difficulties in youth

    Most parents have experienced the frustration of sleepless nights as they try to help their child get to bed. Parents, and adolescents themselves, know the difficulty in keeping regular sleep hours as a teenager. CBT SoCal’s Dr. Julissa Cortes recently held a 1-hour training in which she taught therapists how to help children and adolescents deal with difficulty sleeping.

    Dr. Cortes’s presentation was hosted by The Help Group, a large non-profit serving children, adolescents, and young adults with special needs related to autism, learning disabilities, ADHD, and developmental delays. Dr. Cortes discussed how to apply the main components of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) to the treatment of sleep issues in youth. She discussed how to use strategies such as sleep restriction and stimulus control, which are powerful tools in addressing insomnia.
