CBT SoCal’s Dr. Jason von Stietz recently appeared on the De La Fit podcast discussing many topics related to mental health and sport psychology. Dr. von Stietz discussed his history as a track and field athlete at Citrus College as well as his experience competing in the sport of weightlifting at Chikara Weightlifting. Dr. von Stietz was trained in weightlifting by Coach Kris Kimura, who was a longtime mentee of Tommy Kono, who is the greatest U.S. weightlifter of all time. Dr. von Stietz discussed the use of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and the mindfulness acceptance commitment approach (MAC) to sport performance. Dr. von Stietz also spoke about how MAC can also be used to address trauma experienced by female athletes.
