Kick for a Cure: Dr. Jason von Stietz provides sport psychology services at a breast cancer research fundraiser

Did you know that Dr. Jason von Stietz is the team sport psychology consultant for Salsa SC, a Women’s Premiere Soccer League team based in the South Bay? Dr. von Stietz recently began working with Salsa SC by providing team building and mental skills training with the team during their 2019 WPSL season. Recently, Salsa SC returned to the soccer field for a great cause. The team recently held a charity event entitled Kick for a Cure in which they competed against the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona as a means of raising money for breast cancer research. Not only did Salsa SC raise money for a great cause, they went on to defeat Pomona with a score of 4 to 0.
Dr. von Stietz attended the recent fundraising game to continue in his role as the team sport psychology consultant. He was available on the sideline to Salsa SC players for mental health and sport and performance psychology consultations. For example, he was available to help players injured during the game to manage their feelings of distress. Following an injury, athletes often experience feelings such as depression, anxiety, frustration, and other negative emotions, which can complicate the return to play process. Dr. von Stietz was available to help athletes manage those emotions in a healthy way so that they are better able to recover from their injury and continue performing at their best.
Salsa SC will hold another Kick for a Cure game on Sunday October 27th at North High in Torrance. If you would like to help them raise money for breast cancer research go to their online store and purchase a Kick for the Cure t-shirt (see picture above).
